Rolled Oats are the old-fashioned, round and flat types and are also known as whole oats. They are getting gently steamed to soften up a bit, then the get pressed, by rolling them through metal cylinders. As a result they can be cooked way faster than steel-cut oats, still they can reserve their shape and texture well; if they don’t get overcooked. Apart from porridge, they can be used in various other meals, like granola bars, cookies and muffins. if you prefer more texture, but don’t want to spend so much time with cooking, choose this type instead of steel-cut or instant oats.
